3 Supreme Court Cases

Religion
The parents of a deaf child, James Zobrest, sued their school district after they failed to provide a sign language interpreter for their son who attended a Catholic school. They claimed that the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and the First Amendments free exercise clause compelled the school to provide the interpreter. Both the federal district and appellate courts rejected this case. They did not provide the child with an interpreter because the interpreter would be considered religious from a catholic school.

Minority
This case involves a white woman who applied to the University of Texas and did not get accepted because, she believes, of the color of her skin. She said that she was higher in her class and she was in more activities than some o the people who got accepted, she stated that the only known difference was the color of their skin. Texas' argument was that they wanted diversity.

School:

12th grade high school student Alfonzo Lopez carried a concealed weapon into San Antonio, Texas high school. He got charged with Texas law with firearm possession on school premises. The state charges were dismissed the next day after federal agents charged Lopez with violating a federal criminal the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990. The act says "any individual knowingly to possess a firearm at a place that knows is a school zone." Lopez was found guilty and sentenced to 6 months' imprisonment and 2 ' supervisyearsed release.

notes 3/7

1.) national convention is called every 4 years to officially nominate presidential candidates, adopt part platform, stir up popular support.

2.) Primaries are what each party uses to select its nomination for president.

3.) delegate selection process is now a proportional representation system.

4.) caucus is a closed meeting of a political party to select delegates to the national convention.

5.) on the second day of the convention the keynote is addressed.

6.) governors are typically presidents, used to come from the senate.

war

1.) Taxing more on scanners purchased by residents of Barbour County - anytime one is used in Barbour County limits, you will pay $5.00.
2.)  I would choose to do an all volunteer force because volunteers want to be there & want to fight. Any volunteers that sign up and come to fight will earn the incentive of free gasoline for one hour each day - Only in Barbour County though.
3.)  Each week there will be one day where a family member/friend/spouse is brought out, for free, to deliver mail from other people for that one soldier. They will be allowed to "deliver the mail" and visit for approx. 1 hour.
4.) I would ratify Upshur County's. If they want to send their own troops to help fight the war, that is fine except we do not want more Upshur County soldiers than Barbour County soldiers. Once we win, they can have a piece of Taylor County after approval from Barbour County.

BR3/5/14

If the president dies, it goes to the vice president, then if he dies it goes to the speaker of the house, then to the president pro tempore of the senate, then secretary of state, and then secretary of treasury.

BR-2/28/14

does this violate our freedom of speech?
Yes It does violate our freedom of speech, because we should be allowed to wear appropriate stuff on any day we want.
should we allow our schools to have this much power over dress?
No we should not. A way expressing our selves daily is the way we dress.
Does the attempt to prevent violence change your stance?
If it is actually going to cause a problem with actual fight-like violence then yes it does.

br-2/27/14

No, I don't think they are employees of the university. I also don't think they should get paid for it.
